The way forward is as simple as taking one step. But sometimes that one step feels like a mountain! There are always opportunities to stretch in that first step. This month we share about great stretching moments in one of our Participants' lives and in Living Aspen's growth!
Carol’s story –from participant to new student. It was week two of Carol’s first semester back in school. The projects were piling up and she was feeling overwhelmed, feeling the panic that could cause her to shut down. It was then she stopped and remembered the week of Self-Compassion in Art Journaling. Taking a deep breath, Carol recalled her self-care ideas, the best thing she could do for herself in that moment. She started writing permission slips (week 1 of Art Journaling). One of those permissions was: “To work hard but be OK if I didn’t get an A.” and another, “I remembered I am doing the best that I can and that is enough.”
She made it through a situation that used to make her give up on her goals and dreams. Looking back she says; “I shocked myself! I’ve learned so much from my Art Journaling class and classmates and it is changing my life. I’m finally following my dreams, even if I’m afraid.”
As a survivor, the things Carol learned in the Art Journaling class have helped her feel capable once again.
We are incredibly excited to announce our NEW office location! After four years and four homes to make Living Aspen function, we have grown into an office space just down the road from 5340 Coffee & Events, where our Art Journaling class is held.

But First Coffee…
Coffee Table Conversations
A cup of coffee is the central place of connecting. It is where we begin friendships, where we tell our happiest and funniest moments, and even where we tell the darkest truths of our lives. Living Aspen is an organization with structure and staff and volunteers that require money to function. But our organization is always mindful that Coffee Comes First. Creating our community is the priority, supporting that community in ethical and efficient administrative work is essential. We know you have many choices on how to spend your time, who you spend time with, and how you invest in your neighbors. Living Aspen is one of many worthy organizations. That is why we are asking for you to be a part of our community through listening, learning, and financially supporting our work. But First Coffee is about building relationships with our community in whatever way is best for the individual.
JOIN US for a night of fun with Coffee Jeopardy and a team competition as we talk about Who we are , What we do and WHY we are doing this with you!
You can be a guest at the event, bring a friend with you, or host an event in your home! Your Choice!

A BIG THANK YOU!
This past quarter a local organization, 100 Women Who Care ~ JeffCo, voted to support the work of Living Aspen! Their generous donations plus a matching grant have enabled us to take a leap and move into our office. Thank you 100WWC for believing in our work and for loving the women and men walking into their healing.

Organize supplies in storage unit: We have a storage unit!! This may not seem like a big deal, but it is huge when our supplies have been spread out among four different homes. Now we can keep our supplies for programming and fundraising in one location. Caveat, we could use some help with organizing! If you love to make sense of chaos, we would highly value your time. Sign up here to let us know you want to take this on!
Coordinate a mailing to Arvada Licensed Counselors: Living Aspen is going to send a mailing out to all Arvada Licensed Counselors to let them know of the support we offer to those they work with. Our goal is to have this done by the end of the year. Sign up here if you can help us out.
